Description

two as one

Printmaking in the end i decided was an extremely zen form of art. I enjoyed each piece that i created along this mini spiritual journey explored through different printmaking techniques.

In the beginning i wanted to capture the essence of what the human experience meant to me and express the limitations of our mind by creating the impossible act of literally being in another persons head. As i worked the meaning to me evolved.

Lithography as a process really speaks to my character and the way i prefer to work. The entire process required the utmost sense of cleanliness and really allowed me to finesse my image on the stone. as i worked i would feel a sense of peace and balance wash over me. i thought about why i chose this kind of image and reached a level understanding of myself and what love between two people means to me in a spiritual sense.

The central symbol of two hands intertwined represents the physical act of sex. while the choice to slice the parts on the arm and around the head is to illustrate the amount of vulnerability and openness that is a part of a successful relationship. I chose to only include the nervous system underneath because i wanted to represent the human experience in the most literal of senses.

This is an image of god
This is pure love

This is a beautiful artwork and an amazing bit of printmaking. I've only tried linoleum printing, but I'm eager to try lithograph after seeing how detailed you were able to get the image. :)
